Many factors can contribute to poor accuracy readings. For example, if your GPS is disabled then the network accuracy will vary between 100-5,000+ meters. With GPS enabled you can achieve accuracy down to 2.5 meters. Note, it can take the GPS up to 10 minutes to acquire enough satellites to display optimal location data. Vertical obstructions (e.g., being indoors, around tall buildings, etc.) can also affect GPS accuracy. Mobile Defense uses the same underlying location provider as Google Maps. If you continue to notice this problem, open up Google Maps and see what type of results you get there -- they should be the same.
